We provide you with breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the event – however, we do recommend bringing your own snacks.
WHAT IF I HAVE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
Make sure you let us know your dietary requirements via the portal and we will endeavour to provide suitable meals. We would suggest to everyone to bring extra snacks and drinks.
HOW MANY PEOPLE MAKE UP A TEAM?
Teams consist of 6 participants with the option to add a senior executive as an additional 7th member of the team.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT IN TERMS OF PHYSICAL LEVEL ON THE CHALLENGE?
You really can take part no matter what level of fitness you are.
We advise that if you can complete a 10k run, you will have no trouble, because for most stages the running is start/stop while you navigate between checkpoints. The main criteria is that you have stamina and can deal with the long days.
It is also worth having a little practice on a bike before the event, to remind yourself how the gears work!
Don’t forget it is not all about the physical challenges, the best strategy and communication is what will really help a team.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT WHEN WE ARRIVE AT UKC?
When you arrive at UKC You will go straight to registration where you pick up all your team kit and room keys.
DO TEAMS HAVE TO FUNDRAISE?
Fundraising is a great way of engaging the wider business and motivating your team at the event, however it is at the individual team’s discretion.
WHAT BENEFITS CAN A COMPANY GAIN FROM TAKING PART?
Everyone will take something different away from the UK Challenge.
The strategic elements of a stage help teams with communication – there is no way to succeed without every team member understanding the role they play.
The long days show teams and individuals what they are capable of when they push themselves and keep battling through.
HOW DOES A BUSINESS BENEFIT FROM THE UK CHALLENGE OUTSIDE OF THE EVENT?
In the lead up to the event, a lot of teams benefit from getting together for training. Even if teams work remotely, this provides a great way for individuals to get to know each other outside of the office environment.
Having an event to focus on, provides many team members with the motivation to increase their training. With more and more evidence that keeping fit and active is good for people’s mental health as well as their physical health and has been shown to decrease sick days and increase productivity and retention in the workplace.
DO WE HAVE TO BRING A SENIOR EXECUTIVE ALONG?
You don’t have to, however we have designed a senior executive stage for networking. Not only that but this is a great opportunity for them to experience the event for themselves, get to know employees they may not know, learn about the company and of course see how awesome their teams are!
WHAT KIND OF MINIBUS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND WE HIRE?
One that is capable of carrying all 6 (or 7) team members and equipment comfortably. (nb. there is a limit of 1 vehicle per team on stage)
WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING & WHAT IS PROVIDED?
All meals will be provided from dinner on Thursday through to breakfast on Sunday morning, however it is always advisable to bring some additional snacks.
Racing suits, compasses, med kits, canoes and life jackets are provided.
You will need to provide your own head torch for the night stages and it is worth thinking about what to wear under the race suits and having a suitable pair of shoes. Some teams also like to bring map cases, particularly for the bike and wet weather.
As a team you must bring 4 bikes with you, or you can rent these from us and we will bring them to all the bike stages for you.
You will also need to provide your own vehicle suitable for transporting the whole team in (there is a separate section explaining transportation).
For a detailed list, please refer to the team manual. Anything that you may need that is unique to this year’s event will be communicated to you beforehand.
HOW EARLY DO WE NEED TO START TRAINING?
We recommend your team starts training as soon as possible. There is lots of information on the portal with advice from our partners Instinct + on training. Don’t forget to log all your pre-event training on the portal to help accrue bonus minutes before you even arrive at the start line!
WHAT ARE THE FINAL DEADLINES FOR TEAM SELECTION?
We ask that you have your final team selection confirmed 6 weeks before the event. This is due to logistical operations such as ordering your running suits and ensuring caterers are aware of any dietary requirements etc. If you decide to change any team members in those 6 weeks before the event, please inform us ASAP and we will strive to accommodate any changes if possible.
HOW CAN WE PREPARE FOR THE EVENT PUZZLES?
Attempting all the pre-event puzzle challenges in the team portal is an excellent way to warm up your brain. Otherwise, try relaxing on the sofa and catching up on your favourite TV quiz shows.
HOW CAN I BOOK MY COMPANY’S PLACE FOR 2025?
For all booking enquiries, please contact us on 07887 848580 or email info@ukchallenge.co.uk. Limited places are available as we will cap entries at 90 teams.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS AT THE STAGES?
The first thing to understand is that this is a competitive event. The lower your teams overall time across all the stages, the better you do.
Some stages are fastest to finish – I.e. the time it takes you to complete the challenge and finish is the time your team is awarded.
Other stages are set time. Here everyone is given a set time i.e. 2 hours in which to do as much of the challenge as possible and bonus points teams accrue is take off the 2 hour stage time to separate out the best from worse teams.
Then we have stages that combine both elements.
While we can’t tell you exactly what we have in store for you, as it is always a secret until you arrive on site. What we can say is that every stage will have some strategic challenge to overcome. In most stages there is an element of map reading, and the strategy revolves around which checkpoints are visited by which team member and in which particular order.
Sometimes those checkpoints will be visited on foot, other times by bike or canoe or a mixture.
Almost every stage will have a mental challenge as well, whether that be puzzles that need to be solved for bonus time or as in the case of the final stage, whether you simply can’t leave the checkpoint until you have solved the puzzle.
Finally, we have some stages that involve building a mechanical contraption from materials to perform a certain task. The better the contraption is at performing the task, the more bonus points you are awarded and the better your team does.
Every year is different, but normally 1 stage would be a build stage, another stage would be slightly less physical and involve more mental challenges, 1 stage will involve canoeing and the other stages would be slightly more physical and involve a combination of running or walking and cycling.
The final stage is always the Grand Prix and is the only time all teams will follow the same route from checkpoint to checkpoint on both bike and foot.
In every stage all team members have a part to play. It is good to know your teams strengths, so that those are faster can visit the checkpoints that are further away, those who are better at puzzles can be sent to the puzzle locations. Only 2 people will be able to canoe at a time and only 4 will be able to cycle at a time, so use your training to prepare yourself for proportionally more time on your feet.
AS A SPONSOR WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Your logo and company will be seen throughout the participants journey from when teams join up on our website to the team captains day. Once at the event, we have multiple photo opportunities from the photo wall, to the start / finish branding as well as the TV show and the Prize giving.
Stage story lines can also be written around your companies products and services to thoroughly embed your company into the event.
We are also able to integrate product placement throughout the event, which is another great way of achieving TV coverage without falling foul of advertising rules and regulations.
